Volleyball players and parents,

I am pleased that you have expressed interest in playing volleyball for James Madison Middle School this fall. This year’s tryouts will begin on August 13th and will last through at least August 15th.

The eligibility requirements are a 2.0 and only one "3" from the last report card for the 4th nine weeks of last year. In order to tryout or participate in tryouts each athlete must have a completed physical on file in the office at James Madison Middle School.  The last possible day to have a current physical on file is Tuesday August 13th before tryouts. Athletes may get a physical at the Teen Health Center (call for appointment: 540-774-2481) but must be accompanied by an adult.

Students trying out should wear normal gym wear and appropriate shoes. Knee pads are not necessary, but some athletes choose to wear them. The final team will be posted on the gymnasium doors and on the door outside the girls’ locker room following the last day of tryouts.

If selected to the team, athletes will practice on most school days from 3:45-5:25. Athletes are expected to either have transportation from the school by 5:30 or arrangements to ride the activity bus home which leaves the school at 5:30 as well.  Games are typically scheduled at 4:45 and usually last about an hour. Keep in mind that this can vary depending upon how many games need to be played to determine a winner.  We will set up the gym on home game days after school, and players are expected to wait in the gym prior to away games after school.

Each athlete will be given a schedule including game dates once the team is finalized. In order to accommodate you better, if you plan on playing two sports or have date conflicts please let me know prior to trying out. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. I am excited about this year’s group, and I am looking forward to being your coach!

Sincerely,

Coach Seal
