Athletic Event Procedures
Important Notice to Guests for Ticketed Events at William Fleming and Patrick Henry High Schools and Addison, Breckinridge, Madison, Woodrow, and Fishwick Middle Schools
To provide a family-friendly and safe environment for all, effective Friday, September 8, 2023, Roanoke City School District (RCPS) secondary schools will introduce TWO procedures for ticketed athletic events. RCPS middle and high schools will enforce a Clear Bag/Security Screening Procedure along with a No Outside Drinks Procedure in gymnasiums and stadiums.
To ensure everyone’s visit is as smooth and enjoyable as possible, please take a few moments to familiarize yourself with the updated security procedures that apply to everyone who enters RCPS secondary facilities for ticketed athletic events. This includes students, parents, friends, and families of both teams. These restrictions exclude players, participants, and officials of events.
Clear Bag Procedure/Security Screening
Permitted
Clear bags that allow contents to be seen. Sizes and bag style are not restrictive, if it is a clear see-through container. This includes a gallon storage bag. Clear bags will be made available for purchase upon request to guests. Medical supplies are allowed but prefer to be in a clear bag if possible.

Important Notes
- Event staff, with the support of school administrators, will enforce the clear bag rule upon entrance.
- Security screenings will occur at extracurricular events. This can include metal/weapon detectors, wands, and the use of clear bags.
No Outside Drinks Procedure
Spectators and guests are prohibited from bringing outside drinks and containers into secondary school ticketed athletic event venues. Event staff and school administrators will enforce this procedure at the ticket gates.
